The global focus on clean, renewable energy continues as a global megatrend with the shift of energy consumption from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Norway has unique access to hydropower as a renewable and clean energy source which in the production phase does not emit greenhouse gases or pollute the local environment. When building power plants, local conditions are taken into account and the encroachments on nature are sought to be achieved with minimal external impact. The pipelines to the power stations are usually drilled inside the rock or located underground in ditches. During the construction period, Clemens Kraft subcontracts work to local businesses wherever suitable, for example by use of contractors. Producing power plants pay property tax to the municipality where the power station is located.
For all our plants the encroachment on nature, species diversity, and other local conditions are highlighted. The development and construction of hydropower plants may impact nature as a result of regulated and changed water flow, construction of roads, and power lines. These are interventions that can affect the landscape, fish, and biological diversity. License for production is granted by the public authorities at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.
In the construction of new plants, considerations on local conditions are carefully balanced versus technical challenges. Our projects qualify for sustainable criteria regarding the economy, the environment, and society over their lifetime.
